Denver Comic Con 2013!

The CoWLUG display at this year’s DCC is got plenty of attention on just the first night. Above is the finished Action #1 Mosaic, brought to life by Mark, Mia, Joel & Duane.

Everyone had to “love” the LEGO! But if you didn’t have a chance to see the mosaic at DCC, it’s on display all summer at The Longmont Museum’s BUILD! The Amazing World of LEGO exhibit, which CoWLUG is also a part of.

Costumed crowds filtered in and around the DC/Marvel display looking for themselves amongst the minifigs.

The entire DC/Marvel layout was fabulously designed by Lester, with buildings contributed by Duane, Matthew R. & Donnie. And check out how awesome that banner turned out behind Lester. Thanks again Marand – of M Works Design.

Several builders contributed to the fantastic cityscape. Skyscrapers by Duane and Joker’s “hideout” by Donnie.

The build area was visited by this sweet boy, happily showing off his work.

Alysa’s Dalek took aim at Ryan’s TARDIS, attracting many Dr. Who fans.

Imagine filled out a table with Bioshock builds, a Mass Effect Reaper & and a popular Cthulhu build, delighting the video gaming crowd – including Booker & Elizabeth cosplayers from Bioshock Infinite. (below)

Though I think the club favorite was Galactus stopping by to attack the city.

Ian’s fabulous Sin City table-sized vignette drew people in with captivating black & white buildings in multi layers and key color highlights.

Who is that man behind the curtain?! During the afternoon on the last day of DCC, we heard a booming voice erupt from behind the CoWLUG display area where the Comic Book Classroom stage was positioned. William Shatner made an unscheduled appearance, reading Where the Wild Things Are to the children. We already had a great view, even though we had to sneak peaks from between the drapes of our backdrop.

For the most part, this is what our area looked like for the weekend. We’d like to thank Denver Comic Con organizers for inviting us again this year. We were happy to kick it up a notch and present a LEGO nerd showcase for attendees.

Dan presented an explosion of mechs lined up ready for action.

The Saga mosaic enjoyed it’s premiere location at the Fiona Staples booth. Joel, Duane & Mark pulled off this beautiful blend of some gorgeous colors. You really have to see it in person.

So what are you waiting for! Mark your calendars for next year’s Denver Comic Con (June 13-15, 2014) and come out to join the fun!

Rails on the Rockies 2013

Lester has outdone his organizing skills from previous years to make Rails on the Rockies a huge success! Multiple trains, a monorail and immense variety are the highlights the crowds are enjoying. Above, a speeding train passes by Lester’s multi-mechanical ATM installation while dinosaurs get their fill of java at the local Starbucks.

Inside the Battle for Hoth installation, Lester gets a train on the track.

The mulit-pod moonbase is a new addition this year, featuring bases from half a dozen builders. Ian’s mech moonbase sits next to Jim’s Brick Comic Network moonbase.

Figs that get hungry during the show are making their way over to Meghan’s Zombie restaurant for a unprecedented feast!

The sci-fi monorail section of the installation features various alien gardens with walkways, hover vehicles and various species of plant life featured in the images above and below.

Lester extends his thanks to all the participating builders this year. It’s certainly one of the best this venue has seen!

Samantha’s ice cream parlor highlights the latest Friends figures and colors!

The monorail track kind of meandered out of control from it’s spirals out over the moonbase layout.

Awesome details were displayed by all our builders. Duane’s Thinker sculpture sits in front of town structures by Sean and Stuart.

The Hoth Ice Cream Shop is by our youngest sponsored member, Asher, with help from Stuart.

Denver Comic Con 2012!

Denver’s first Comic Con was a huge hit! Members of CoWLUG did their best to showcase original LEGO designs including Lester’s Space Pod City and steampunk trains, Ian’s motorized technic wonders, Imagine’s Bioshock Rapture, Jessica’s Little Walking Houses, and Art’s Alphabet Wing Fighters. There was something for everyone. The feedback from the crowds bordered on extreme enthusiasm. A good time was had by all. Many thanks to the DCC organizers for the invite. It was a pleasure to be a part of it.

Imagine fields questions from the crowd.

Lester dresses the part with his steampunk costume.

Ian & Imagine find some free time in the last hour to play. 🙂 Thanks to all the builders who took the time to participate, visit the display and help out at the show. Thanks to all the fans who came by to geek out with us! Mark your calendars for next year – Stan Lee will be attending!
